Re: [pyrnet] Re: Young Pyr's Behaviour

Being a first time Pyr mom, I have quickly learned that this breed has it's own, unique personality!  It's not only that, they remain "puppies" longer than the labs we're used to (2 yrs.).  Most of the folks on the list are well aware of all the problems & questions I've had concerning Angel...from eating maurading love seats, to hot spots & picky eating habits..oh, and I can't forget the worst, seperation anxiety!  Did I mention, there is one less seatbelt in the back seat of the car?  All in all, yes, she has tested me through and through...just like a human child going through the terrible 2s.  Oh, and that beautiful hand braided, 6' latigo lead, with the soild brass harware???? Why it made a lovely afternoon snack!  I'm just happy it only cost me 22$ including the s/h!

The only thing I can say is that it's SO much better (she's 10 months old now) that she is getting a "brother" (Pyr) pup in June! Yup, I'll now have a "pair of Pyrs".

The personality and behavior traits that are less than desirable are far outweighed by those that are.  It's a learning process, you learn just how to anticipate what the little stinkers are going to try and try to avoid letting them do so.  Just like any child, if temptaion is in their path.....Then again, who can resist a muddy covered Pyr smile?

She can still be experating at times, like "I want your attention NOW' nose jabs to the arm, pulling the covers off me if I sleep past 4 a.m., or the ever popular, using that nose as a steam shovel if left unattended outside for too long (longer than 5 minutes), blithly digging her way to China!

On the flip side of the coin, she hasn't bothered any furniture in a couple of months, she hasn't had to "kill" any more stuffed animals to protect us and she is the gentlest of souls with our granchildren, all 9 of them.  We don't worry about her with the litttest of them, who is now 11 months old.

My best suggestion?  BTTER APPLE SPRAY!  It works like a charm with Angel and I'm looking to buy it in 1 gallon buckets for the newest addition to the family.  I HAVE learned, I CAN be taught!
