Re: [pyrnet] companion dog question

Actually Rottweilers do mainly have a bad reputation.  When bred right, they are really nice dogs.  It's just that they were popular with the "wrong type of people" who bred them and trained them to be mean or just didn't pay attention to how they bred/trained them.  Same thing happened with Cockers, they've got tons of health problems and had really bad temperaments 'til they got less popular and the good breeders started taking over.

We had a Rott, some of the neighbors were afraid of her just because she was a Rott.  You had to watch her with cats (we acquired her after she was about two-years-old and had already had two or three owners) and she loved to play with, chew on and eat rocks but she LOVED people.  :-D

>>>>The dog is free to keep our property free of raccoons, squirrels, and mice,
since they all eat either chickens or chicken food...as long as he isn't too
interested in the chickens.  We have one squirrel in residence that Sophie
is always trying to catch, but so far has been unsuccessful.  I've seen no
signs of raccoons, opossums, or any other such critters in the six months
we've lived here.

I remember house hunting a few months ago and seeing a chicken yard with two
Rottweilers in it.  The dogs were just lying about placidly while being
surrounded by chickens.  Not what I would have expected from that breed.  I
don't think my wife would go for Rotts though based on their size and
reputation.
