Title: Re: [pyrnet] Old dog throwing up, has runs - but not all the time , repeated "hot spot" infections
I have a 4 yr old male who has had the same symptoms you are experiencing with your girl. I changed his diet from Iams to a prescription diet... Eukanuba Low Residue. It has worked wonders. He has finally gained enough weight to look like a real pyr. instead of this long lanky thing.
On another note.. does or has anyone used any boots or leg wraps on their Pyrs? I just again.. spent 4 hrs at the vets this morning removing a fractured dew claw. I almost lost my boy this morning from anesthesia. He was given Dormitor.. a dose for an 80lb dog only... (he weighs 143) He actually stopped breathing from it. We hike and backpack a lot.. so the damaged dew claws happen often. I have searched the web for boots for him that would be tall enough to cover his dew claws, but haven't had much luck finding anything that I feel would work. Then something hit me.. why not leg wraps like on horses? Has anyone had any success with this?
Thanks,
Christy

Hello all. We have a 12 year old female pyr. Begninning with last summer, she began to get "hot spots" that went from nothing, to a major infection, at least twice. both times we had to actually have the vet keep her overnight to give her antibiotics and fluids. This is new. We watch her like a hawk, and she gets frontline, but has had two more episodes, that I caught fast enough to clean, cone her and spray w/ antibiotic spray. Along with this, about once a month or more, she has a major diarreah episode all over my house and once threw up. Took her to vet - he chose not to do any blood work, checked her othewise and said give her a peptobismal. Sitting here now, having just cleaned up the rug - I'm not happy with his answer. What might cause this? Does anyone have any ideas? She is on Alpo, with some canned food (she had lost 15 lbs, but is back up to a decent weight) - and gets invisible link w/ glucosamine.
Any help would be much appreicated.
