Hi Kelly,
I've run into that Here with fosters~~These guys are fast ,  very fast~~I just had to be faster~~
I talked Myself "blue in the face" teaching the "wait" command~~When I opened the door, I had one eye on the dog~when the dog tried to bolt out the door, i would just shut the door again, repeat the "wait ( with My left hand down at My side, palm toward the dog) ,open the door again~~if the dog bolted, shut the door, repeat the wait command~~it gets old, it gets long, but the dog's ultimate reward is to get out of that door~~After a few minutes of having the door shut in His face, He gets the idea~then if the dog bolts again, ( Your left hand is free, the right hand is opening the door, if the dog tries to bolt again, grab the ruff with Your left hand & push Him back, ( always repeat "wait)~~It may take 1 day, it may  take  one week~but these guys are smart, they will eventually get the idea that if they want to go out, they have to wait for Your permission~~This also will pay off if You have Him in the car, ect..and You don't just want Him to jump out without permission~~

hope that this helps,.
