Thank you all for your help.  I will pass the info along.  I think that he 
will be very relieved to hear that other Pyrs had a voice change in old 
age....and he can also watch for signs of a cold or perhaps growth on the 
vocal chords.  I did not ask him how long this had gone on, but knowing this 
concientious owner it is probably a fairly recent development.
