Re: [pyrnet] what to feed and how much!!

Hi
That is so true. :) My brother free feeds his Great Dane and it works great for his dog. I wish it worked for mine. Maybe some day it will but I don't think so. My Lab is an endless pit :). And I think that it is because she is a rescue lab? Has anyone else seen this in a rescue dog? She is by no means agressive when she eats, we could take her food away at any time. And just sit "Pretty" until we give it back. We do this to Dilbert too, so that he doesn't growl or nip with us or anyone during feeding time.
Right now where one is on puppy food and the other is not so it is also hard to free feed as I don't want them to eat each others food.  And they know when it is feeding time they both stay at each others own bowls and eat away.
But I do agree with you, it just depends on the dog. :)

While I see what you are saying I must say that I do freed feed and have had VERY different results.

We have two dogs-one Rotweiller and our Great Pyr.  When I feed, I put what they get for the entire day in their bowls.  They then proceed to "munch" on it all day long.  This is very good for them, as they don't "gobble" their food all at once.

I have had dogs who did gobble and got sick from this, also it tended to cause fights with our other dogs "as in who got to eat, etc".  Once we started free feeding, we didn't have any more problems.

I really think it depends on your dog and or dogs.. Some it works for and some it doesn't..
