I have a senior citizen as well, Shakespeare is now 11 yrs old.  I find that
his appetite in general isn't good (never was a strong eater).  He does eat
enough to maintain approx 115 lbs. but that is down from 2 yrs ago at 120 -- 
125 lbs.  I, too was concerned but the vet was not.  She said that some
senior dogs (like people) have a tendency to run a little lean and have
greater difficulty putting on weight and maintaining it.  Shakespeare is
also loosing muscle tone and some physical sensation in the rear, so she
maintains that lighter is probably better and he will be able to better move
around and live a little longer if he's not carrying a lot of weight.  Now,
I just have to convince Mushu of this :(
