[pyrnet] FW: Desperately in need of placing a special dog

Title: Message
Hello everyone;

I am cross posting the below email for a dog in Michigan which I believe is a Pyr/Golden Ret cross.  I have pictures, and if you would like me to send them to you directly, please let me know, as the Pyr site will not allow me to send them.  The owner below describes him as a Samoyed, but I believe him to be much more a Pyr then a Golden or a Samoyed. They are currently checking to see if he has double dew claws.  If anyone can help, the contact info is below, or I am happy to email photos I received.

Thank you.

Anybody have room in their heart or home for this one. It breaks my heart. I have no foster home to put him in.

Subject: Desperately in need of placing a special dog

I am hoping you can help me out because I don't know where to turn.

I adopted Buzz and Sam from a shelter in Sandusky about 3 years ago. Buzz was a black lab/chow and Sammy was to the best of their guess a Golden Ret/Samoyed mix, hence the name. I focused on the Golden part as I have had those before but I had never had a Samoyed. I don't know Sammy's story as he was picked up as a stray (Buzz was a surrendered puppy) I can only assume some where along the way Sammy was abused. He is very loving but very needy.

Both dogs were to be house dogs but it was clear when we got home that Sammy couldn't handle the house. As I read on about Samoyed I see over and over again the words needy, happy now to be the only pet, thinks he's a 60 lb lap dog. That all describes Sammy. That doesn't work for our house. He gets along well with other dogs but he appears neurotic at times? He does not act like any golden I have ever had. I don't know if it's the neglect/abuse, a factor of genetics or what.

Things were ok with Buzz and Sammy outside. I longed for them to be inside dogs and tried on many occasions to bring them in and give it ago. Sammy was not housebroken and difficult to train as he took shame so to heart. If I yelled at Buzz to scold him for chewing shoes (Buzz was very naughty) Sammy would take the blame. So it was back outside, which was working. But last Monday, Buzz died suddenly. Now we have a huge problem with needy Sammy. He can't come in, I won't replace Buzz to have two outside dogs again and I have no where to take Sammy. He is so lonely. He has been crying late at night and early in the morning. It's the saddest sound. It's not barking let me in, let me in. It's empty and sad. He sounds like a  lost child, far away. It's awful. Now the neighbors are starting to complain.

We had Sammy in the night Buzz died, I had to keep a hand on him all night before he would relax. He's beautiful but he needs work, work my family cannot handle. My husband and I both work, the kids are teens, we have goats, rabbits, chickens and two house dogs already. Actually the goats, rabbits and chickens are illegal. Even though we live on one acre in the country we have been told we need 10 acres for chickens! We area also only allowed 2 dogs. We got away with 4 because we had a balance, two outside, two inside. Our neighbor has been threatening to take this up with the township.

I have had folks who have wanted Sammy before because he is cute. We wanted to place him about two hours after we got him home, but knew he needed someone who understood him, would take time with him. I don't want to dump him but now animal control is involved. It's been a week and Sammy's howling is getting much better. But the neighbor is starting to complain and he called them. I don't know what to do. I talked to animal control and tried to explain what happened and that Sammy just needed some time and I was trying to find him a new home. (actually right now, sammy is quiet. It hits him at dusk and twilight, and sometimes once or twice in the middle of the night, doesn't that break your heart)

I just don't know what to do and I don't want animal control to come and take him away. He is neutered, was just tested neg for heart worm and currently on heart worm meds, and just got his rabies update. He is licensed also for Bay County. Please help me out I don't know what else to do. I will drive him anywhere in the state to find him the best foster/permenant home. He's very loving, walks well on a leash, when he is walked often. Needs to see a doggie dentist for his tartar but a beautiful healthy boy.

Take a look at his pictures, forward him to whomever you can but please give Sammy a chance at someone to keep him forever.
