Thanks Amy, Trudy and Roz,
That feeling of being sick with guilt and panic is
simply overwhelming.
Roz, I can only imagine your relief when you returned
to the campground to see your Pyr, (Mellow?) on that picnic table. I'd like to
think our local police and the fire department would help us with a
search but a lot has changed in our little "city" and I just don't know. I
mean, everyone knows Kodi and likes him.
In the past few hours I have not read much hopeful info
about collar devises since we kind of live in a remote area.
Take care all,
Christine/Kodiak

Subject: Re: [pyrnet] GPS Tracking for lost Pyrs ?
It's not just the pyrs that do this --- Harry Pugger has found
himself going for a ride in the police car to the SPCA twice when he
wanders down the road. Last time he spent the night and according to the
people at the SPCA was quite enjoying the visit! It was me who was the
wreck trying to find him. First time the Pyrs were aiding him in his
escape, he slid out the door under them as they came in so I did not
notice his departure. Second time, it was an open gate and he made
a dash for it.

Hi Christine - I know exactly how you are/were feeling - Bad Boy
Orso puts me through that from time to time!!!!! The GPS tracker
(which is www.spotlightgps.com) didn't work for us as we live
out in the country and have poor cell phone service - the collar devise uses
a satellite to read where the dogs is but sends the info to your computer
via cell phone connection - I was VERY disappointed when the unit didn't
work for us - I'm hoping some day they will come up with a better
system. Why do these pyr's have to do this to us! Don't
they know we love them!!!!!!

Isn't there a way to have a collar that has a GPS chip like a cell
phone? Is this practical?
Kodiak has the chip but those only work if someone finds a way to scan
him if they find him.
I just spent the worse two hours of my life hunting for Kodiak. It was
a freak thing but he somehow got out of the gate this morning. We live on
top of a cliff and in one direction there is a steady, steep gradual
drop off into a dry creek. It floods during heavy rains but is dense with
trees and brush otherwise. My husband enlisted the support of every
neighboring construction worker, yard worker and the like and one of them
tracked Kodiak down.
He led us on an intense, merry chase and we finally caught him. His
legs are black in covered in...I don't know what and he is coated in
burs.
It has been two hours and he is still breathing heavily.
We were lucky today as it is clear a Pyr can cover miles in a short
period of time.
I was so frusrated and the only thing I could think of was wishing
there were a better way to track a missing dog like a Pyr.
Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this?
Thanks
Christine/Kodiak
