[WW] Adventure idea

This is only an over-view as many details of the game
are unknown at this time. So detail can be added later
on when more is known. This is a supernatural heavy
beginning for the PC's and thus is a bit full on with
the weirdness for my own tastes. Still, after watching
"Dambusters" last night the mind wanders.

Concept is thus:

A bomber mission has been ordered by "Those who Rule
Above in Shadow," otherwise known as the Joint Command
Staff. The target itself is unknown, but the mission
itself must be vital as this raid was pulled together
with less than 24 hours notice and the inclusion of
many of the squadrons means the destruction of other
targets previously thought vital for the war effort
would be delayed.

The PCs are the crew of one of these bombers (be it
American, British, otherwise aligned etc). The raid
was sceduled to stike during the hours of darkness to
lessen the risk to the crews involved. As such
visibility was minimal and the raid was performed on
an area basis rather than strictly based on a select
target.

Losses were moderate incoming due to the surprise
value and escorts assigned but became progressively
heavier on the outward leg of the raid.

The bomber carrying the PCs is engaged by a German
Night Fighter and shot up heavily. They PCs must bail
out while still over the greater part of Germany. This
is where they are bought face to face with the
consequences of the hastily thought out raid.

After bailing out from the bomber, a number of the
crew land relatively close together (this would be the
Posse). Sticking together for safety, they begin to
venture away from their parachutes with little more
than their survival packs. They're not all that far
from the raid's target so know they are far from
safety if caught.

Not long after beginning their trek to safety they're
over run of a local mob. While the Posse first think
they are the targets of this violent group they
instead find they are merely in the way. The mob wish
to escape and they're not concerned about what blocks
their path.

Once the Posse corner someone to question (cue a fight
scene) they find out that something is very wrong with
the area behind them. There are whispers of winged
devils, flying nightmares that defy explanation. The
townsfolk had taken cover when the loud drone of
engines flew overhead and explosions tore into the
earth nearby, and were utterly unprepared for their
worst imaginations to be waiting for them to emerge
from safety. Forced to flee, the townsfolk are looking
for safety elsewhere. On the horizon fanned the flames
left behind by bombing raid, except these flames were
gathering in strength as time progressed.

The Posse don't know what exactly is going on but even
the tail gunner understands that they may have had a
hand in causing the situation. Cut off from support,
frightened and alone, the Posse make their way to
where their bomber crashed. Perhaps they could strip
the wreck of weapons or a radio. Perhaps they may be
able to make contact with others of their crew.
Perhaps they could find out what they have done.

Marshall's Brief - Allied Intelligence discovered
that the Wehrmacht were about to complete a summoning
ritual for a vastly powerful being. While the exact
details were unknown there was little doubt that such
an event had to be stopped. With little time to waste,
the ritual was planned to reach completion within the
next 48 hours, OSS found their scarce stable of agents
were out of position and could not intervene in the
time frame allowed. As such, Bomber Command was bought
into the loop. They were tasked with levelling the
area. Bomber Command were not told what their exact
target was, but there were informed that the target
was an encampment recently built in a valley.

The raid was a success in that the area was levelled
down to rubble. Unfortunately the ritual had
progressed to such a stage that interruption did not
cancel the summoning as much as leave it in
mid-stride. The creature that was to be summoned still
could not enter this plane. However the breach in the
walls between voids was enough to allow its servants
to enter our world and complete the ritual in the name
of their master.

The Mission: As I'd imagine this to be an introduction
to the game for a beginning posse completing the
ritual wouldn't be all that difficult to complete.
Perhaps merely removing the focus of the ritual from
the area and thus allowing the gathered forces to
collapse and thus seal the embryonic portal before it
is complete. This still means the Posse has to work
out what is going on, fight their way inwards, get the
article, and get out again.

Once the Posse return to safety they already know to
much and will be secured until their reliability is
established. Perhaps by engaging in a few more
missions for their new unit.

Yeah, it's rough as guts but it's an idea of what
could be done with the system.

Cheers,
Mr. B
