[WW] Re: The Grat War 1914-1919

World War One could be pretty weird. One of the most
useful sources I have is 'The World War One
Sourcebook' by Arms & Armour Press. They also do
equally good sourcebooks on the ACW and the Napoleonic
Wars.

The Middle East and Turkey (see the film 'The Light
Horsemen')

The Far East.
Japan invades the German 'colony' in China - and is
applauded for its humane treatment of the prisoners.
The German Far East squadron flees - stopping at
Panope among other places (Panope is a weird place,
just ask any CoC keeper).

Japanese destroyers in the Med. escorting convoys.

Chinese labour batallions behind the western front - a
coolie suggested that tanks should have eyes so they
could see where they were going...

Winchester lever action rifles bought by a Russian
government desperate for any arms.

Singapore (or some other British colony) a mutiny by
Indian troops is put down with Japanese help. I think
the troops had some weird belief.

U-Boats landing arms for the IRA in Ireland trying to
start an open revolt.

The German High Seas Fleet interned at Scapa Flow.
Scuttled in 1919 - Royal Navy boarding parties tried
to stop them - and some of them carried cutlasses.
They raised a lot of the ships for scrap in the '30s.
On one they found bones - which turned out to be beef
bones.

A zeppelin sent to East Africa to resupply the German
units there - who were led by one of the great heroes
of the war, von Beck I think.

They dug tunnels beneath the German lines to open
gaps. Of the four two went off as planned and the
blast was heard in London. One blew up in the 20s and
one never went off. The rotting remains of tunnels
still lie beneath the fields. Who knows what else is
there?

I hope this helps.
Michael
