I would say your average paratrooper is either a grunt or officer (with
parachute proficiency).

If I remember correctly, the Pathfinders were not their own unit.  They were
members of the 101st (and probably other airborne divisions) that had been
chosen to go in ahead of the regular forces and set up beacons for the
planes to use in finding the drop zone.  They would qualify quite well for
the scout class, in my opinion.
