re East Africa: The fellow's name was von Lettow Vorbeck. I forget 
his first name. With a force of (at most) 40,000 men he kept around 
500,000 mostly South African troops occupied. And he conquered 
Mozambique on top of it.

A WWI WW campaign set in east Africa, with all the eldritch critters 
running around, could be good.
