[WW] Re: Various Points

Thanks for the info on von Lettow-Vorbeck.

Bubonic plague has been around for a long time. The
Great Fire of London in 1666 stopped one of the last
major British outbreaks. It is still out there - in
America as well as its original home in Asia. The
reservoir species are small rodents.

The Book 'The Coming Plague' is good stuff about
emerging diseases, frightening but useful.

I was told by someone in the Territorial Army (British
equivalent of the National Guard) that he was given a
lecture by a man who had commanded a British armoured
unit in France and Germany during WW II. His comment
on 'Saving Private Ryan' was that he would have had
Tom Hank's character court-martialed. He also had a
nasty question. Your lead lead tank is brewed by by a
panzerfaust fired from an air-raid shelter. DO you
fire on the shelter knowing there could be civilians,
women and children, in there? Or do you waste the
lives of your men trying to sort it out? His answer.
Your fire it of course, the lives of your men matter
most.
