Re: [WW] Brutes, Tolkien, and the OSI

Oh sure, hide the truth behind a "reasonable explanation". Go ahead, just
try. The truth will come out, and it's more incomprehensible than the
armament configuration on a Blackburn Roc[1]. It's as inexplicable as the
Grand Panjandram[2]. It's as enigmatic as...well...Enigma[3]. Hide it
behind ULTRA and MAGIC all you wish, but it will come out, oh yes.... [Big

[1] The slowest aircraft in the Royal Navy, the Roc had the lowest top speed
of any combat plane in WWII. Accordingly, its only armament faced the rear.

[2] An almost indescribable experiment by the Royal Navy (them again) to
create a device for clearing a beach of mines and obstacles. Imagine two
large wheels, side by side on a common axle. Put rockets around the
perimeter of the wheel so that when they ignite, they spin the wheels. See
the locked axle cause said device to fall over all too easily.

[3] Self-explanatory to a student of the period.
