[WW] Re: Australians and Damage Values

I think there might still have been Australians in the
RAF or RN. I know there were earlier in the war.
As long as the Aussies keep their cruisers away from
the Yanks they should be OK...

Damage Values
I haven't seen the book yet but this is worrying. I
would expect compression of damage values but this a
bit far.

A quick look at my database gives the following
values:

Bullet
                   Damage Formulae MV ME Mass
Cartridge TKO HRSP PH WLF M/s Joules
grams
.50 Browning 145 458 76 715 854 16774 46
.30 M-1 Carbine 9 140 13 130 602 1287 7.1
.30 M1 Carbine 9 141 14 131 607 1308 7.1
.30-06 Springfield 21 153 52 292 823 3962 11.7
.30-06 Springfield 17 222 39 236 957 3709 8.1
.30-06 Springfield 19 206 40 262 887 3816 9.7
.30-06 Springfield 23 170 40 318 735 3863 14.3
.30-06 Springfield 20 198 41 277 853 3893 10.7
.30-06 Springfield 21 191 41 292 823 3962 11.7

TKO Taylor Knock Out
HRSP Hatcher’s Relative Stopping Power
PH Penetration (Hogg)
WLF Wootter’s Lethality Factor

None of these formulae are particularly scientific -
but they do show the relative effectivness.
I have no respect for the .30 M1 Carbine. It was
issued instead of a pistol because it was easier to
use than an M1911A1. It's cartridge was basically a
pistol cartridge. It was light and handy but it could
not compare with a Garand at range. Still it would
kill and maim at normal combat ranges and that was
what mattered.

Remember the .50 BMG origionated as an anti-tank
cartridge at the end of the Great War, it is like
putting O J Simpson in the Little League (am I mixing
up sports metaphors? I dont care, I am not American).

Give me some Weirdwars values and I will see if we can
model it a bit more realistically (the game has
werewolves and he is talking realism?)
