I recomment Combat Mission: Beyond Normandy.  The demo is only about 10 megs
and I'm still enjoying it.  The game plays beautifully, and the full version
is only $45.

One thing to bear in mind. If you only look at the screen shots, you might
be fooled into thinking it's one of those real-time 3-D monsters that
requires incredible hand-eye coordination.  It's not.   It is an entirely
turn-based game that old farts like myself can do well at.
