Strange, I always found that the Deadlands system got
in the way of the story, that was one of the reasons I
was so keen to get my hands on the D20 version.

I suspect your perceptions are affected by what games
you are coming to it from, if you came from an older
generation game Deadlands might seem a breath of fresh
air. In our case we had been playing a lot of CoC and
STOCS, which the GMs knew by heart so Deadlands was an
increase in complexity not a decrease - especially
with all those different die types as well as playing
cards and poker chips (coloured glass beads in our
case).

I don't know how the D20 version will play yet - I
want to try a game first before converting the
campaign to it but I do not believe it will be any
more complex than the original system.

Perceptions differ, as long as we all have a choice of
systems we will all be (mostly) happy.
