i like #2 (short lived), but what if the shells are not actually the
elemental itself, but rather either a "piece" of the elemental or some
conjuration from it't great powers. when the PC's hit the german base they
discover the elemental bound by blood mages. perhaps an enchantment being
renewed constantly by the mages from some ancient text. the plan becomes
simple. kill the bloods. the spell fails. the creature returns home. steal
the book. simple. only problem is, when they disrupt the spell, the
creature goes NUTS and set's about seeking revenge for its torment. now
you've got blood mages, tanks, soldiers AND one wacked out elemental. all
this before breakfast! it's gonna be a long day...
