Oh, forgot to say.... don't think working with ghost steel or even the 
powdered ghost rock would necessarily require being a mad scientist or any 
arcane background for that matter... (though a metal mage might be able to 
learn more about what could be done)... since there aren't manitous giving 
the ideas, and the item being made is a normal science type item.  From what 
I understand the key to being a mad scientist, and their creations are 
dependant on the item NOT being able to be created through normal technology 
or even logic.
