Thanks for your comments, everybody.

The player's character did go bye-bye. He said he still wants to bring
him back into Deadlands - I'm just not going to let that character come
back in MY group.
He made up a brand new character, and I'll work him into the next gaming
session.
For now, in my game at least, the player's old character ain't coming
back except at the head of the Devil's Own Herd.
