In the description of the wormling transformation in the Wasted west
source book it says "The tentacleprovides nourishment to the
wormling-to-be and also floods his system with a viral form of rattler
DNA". That is a supernatural retro-virus that re-writes the victem's
genetics code. It is also supernatural in nature hence it can be healed
by the Lay on Hands greater reward.
