Ok, dealing with a pain in the ass player, been there, done that, bought the
shirt, DO NOT want to go back!!!
The game was Warhammer and my players were pretty solid, until a 'friend' o'
mine decided that he wanted to join in. To make a long story short, he was
a total asshole. He loved egging other characters into doing things they
didn't want to, he kept trashing on the other players in a way I can only
describe as malicious, and, the thing that really pissed me off, he acted
like he knew the rules better than I did when he didn't have a Games
Workshop book to his name. There is nothing wrong with correcting a GM if
they make an honest mistake, but he kept trying to twist the rules so that
his character could basically get away with anything. After 4 sessions, and
8 kinds of hell, me and my group decided that we had had enough. I've
always been a straight forward person, so before we got started on the next
game, I just took him aside and told him that me and the rest of the group
was tired of the crap and if he wanted to keep playing with us, he was going
to have to knock it off. Then, he just plain got nasty, and I told him to
get the f**k out. He stormed out and I haven't talked to him since. Sad
thing is, I still don't feel that bad about it.
Moral of the story...this is a game and it's supposed to be fun. If someone
is creating bad feelings in you and the rest of the group, get rid of them,
they're just not worth it.
How I'd get rid of his character? That was easy, before we got started that
night, I turned the character into a NPC, and got him to try to rape the
group's female wizard. She made a lot of noise and they spent nearly an
hour hunting the basterd in the dark. It was gratifyingly fun, and he
almost got away, but a few clever ideas and well placed crossbow bolt tore
his head from his shoulders.
It's your posse, and he's your friend. You're going to have to choose how
you're going to deal with this. In my experience, if you're not having fun
and he's the reason, ditch him and have fun killing off his character. In
the long run, you'll be a lot happier, and so will your players.
