Re: [pbmserv] Broadcast from slipsits via PBM Server
Good point Robert. I would only re-emphasize that nobody owns the general use of owls as trademarks, least of all some obscure Russian TV game show. Gamerz Net isn't a game or a game show. It's a game server. The assertion that a Gamerz Net owl would infringe on a Russian TV show is utterly ridiculous.

Patents prevent people from using the IDEAS of others as if they were
their own.
Copyrights prevent people from using the written or otherwise PUBLISHED
content of others as it they were their own.
TRADEMARK REGISTRATION prevents people from using the IMAGES that
identify particular BUSINESS VENTURES of others as if they were their own.
Thus, neither patent nor copyright would prevent PBM from using an owl
as a mascot image. In addition, more than one kind of owls exist, and
more than one IMAGE of an owl exists. As long as the image that would
be chosen would be readily discernible from the image used for the TV
show, there should be no problems. Furthermore, that show is not the
only company that has an owl as a trademark, but (of course) each owl
trademark image IS different, hence there are no conflicts.
