Re: [PyrNet-L] New puppy

We too had a dominant puppy who was a hazard to hands and legs. Like
Steph, we had a trainer who insisted on home visits before attendance at
puppy classes (no classes until puppies were fully immunized). She had us
do lots of anti-dominance stuff, and was invaluable in giving us an
escalating scale of deterrance for nipping. We now have a 5 year old from
whom we can take bones at will and who can be trusted to take treats from
the handicapped children he visits as a therapy dog. You're absolutely
right to start the training early...this may be nothing more than a
dominant puppy trying you out! One note of warning....dominant pups will
give it another shot from time to time so be ready!
