I've pretty much stayed out of this thread, was just sitting back listening,
with an open mind and trying to learn from those of you who have more
experince than I, however, I can appreciate what the majority of you all are
saying in that alot of a dogs personality is already predetermined in their
genes, but (you knew there'd be a but) I, like Mitzi am in the minority here,
I feel that alot of the dogs makeup is what you do with them. I have two
Pyrs, one male, one female, for the most part, they are extremly laid back,
well behaved dogs, but that's because I wouldnt have it any other way. I
guess what I'm trying to say is that somewhat like children a dog from a very
young age learns what is expected of them, if you allow them to misbehave in
public be it around other people or other dogs and dont correct them for
inappropriate behavior, they will do it again and again. I just strongly feel
that we can mold their personalites quite a bit to what we see as fit in our
lifestyle. Many of the dogs that I see that are rambunctious, aggressive,
biters etc. are like this because their owners have not let them know strongly
enough that they are alpha, and not the dog.
