Re: [PyrNet-L] Breeding

I have only been a member for 3 years but this brings something to mind. I
believe one of the club's main area of concern is directed towards the
breeders - who are the ones who can make a difference in "the improvement,
advancement and protection of our breed." And due to the importance of
breeders upon the future of the Pyr, I think the non-breeders may feel left
out at times.

However, both local and national clubs are always looking for help in other
departments that are not directly involved in breeding - such as rescue and
breed education. For rescue, I'm sure foster homes or someone willing to
transport dogs or help clean up & take to dogs to the vets, etc., are
practically always needed. For the LGD and therapy dog owners, breed
education is important. You can contribute stories/traumas/experiences in
newsletters and at meetings. And you don't have to be a breeder to set up
an information booth about LGD's at a local fair or livestock show. Or to
prepare a pyr parade (or local "walk") to get together pyrs and raise money
for rescues. Or to prepare an informational brochure with a demonstration
on therapy pyrs for a Specialty show.

There are plenty of areas to get involved with the club. I realize many
members are breeders and show people, but you quite possibly could
contribute much more in areas where the club may be lacking. Don't feel
shy - make the suggestion!
