To be completely blunt, it doesn't work. My Great Pyr, Cid, doesn't believe
in invisible fencing. We bought the strongest collar available and it does
work up to a point.....as long as you're there watching. One of the
experiences we had was when one day my wife and I were outside enjoying the
company of our dogs, when another dog just happened to run by. We had been
outside for over an hour and didn't have any problems at all. Whenever Cid
went to the boundaries, he got zapped. But when that dog ran by, Cid decided
he'd had enough and went right through it. This wasn't a single incident.
He's done this 9 or 10 times. The people with invisible fence said the only
other option was to put an electrified body collar on him, and no I don't
think so. People have to remember that these fine animals have a mind of
their own and pretty much do as they please. The trick is to make them want
to do what you want them to do. Unfortunately, staying in the yard doesn't
fall under that category. I really hope this helps. I would really like to
prevent any body else from having to pay vet bills from when their Pyr
decides to go take a bite out of someone else's dog, like I did. Not to
mention two trips to the pound to "spring" him.
