Re: [PyrNet-L] Giant Breed?
This gave me a chuckle...I always think the same thing when someone says "I
have a 150lb anything" I think "you need a good diet food!" Then my husband
reminded me of the ACTUAL 120lb golden we used to know.
The biggest (widest) thing I've ever seen on four legs. It was gross. Poor
dog could barely breathe, but was happier than anything, in true lab style,
and only three years old. Went to the groomers twice/month, well cared for,
loved to pieces, the whole bit. Believe it or not the dog was a failed PAWS
assistance dog (allergic to cats).
The owner could be seen walking the dog to the corner and back to "get some
excercise". Knowing full well her dog had a weight problem, and befuddled
about what to do. One day in coversation she mentioned Maddie doing very
well on her new diet plan. Cut her food amount in half (per the vet's rec.),
and now Maddie would finish all her food without them having to pour gravy on
it, and force her to finish her bowl everyday. The difference was just
amazing! (in her opinion)
Come to find out. Two years ago when they got the dog. The vet said she
should be eating about 4 cups/day. The owners, being of good conscience,
made sure she got the full FOUR cups a day, whether the dog wanted it or not.
All I can say is, good thing these nice people don't have any children. It
would be dangerous!
