Re: [PyrNet-L] re: chat

I have known several Pyrs that have lived in apartments with no problems.  One of the main reason the situation has worked well was that the owners all were at home full-time in order to walk the dogs and correct barking.  However when our daughter (who was away at work during the day) took one of our Pyrs to live with her in a condo, she had many complaints about barking.  Turned out that the dog would bark every time a door was opened, someone walked by or another dog barked.

In the right circumstances Pyrs can do fine in an apartment.  I do have a problem with giving away a free dog.  I'm afraid people may not treat a free dog as well as one they pay for.  Also, if this women likes to go to shows, does she also want an unspayed show dog for free?

I received this email from a lady that was inquiring about purchasing a Pyr. I have enclosed some of the information I email and received from this lady.  I would like to ask some of you out there would you give or sell a puppy to someone that1.  Couldn't afford the initial cost of a pyr puppy?2.  Lives in a large apartment in Toronto?3.  What are your thoughts on a Pyr living in a apartment? It will be very helpful to hear some of you thoughts. If you are willing to give this lady a Pyr puppy please email me privately and I will give you her address. I was looking for a female puppy and the only problem is that I am unable to pay the initial cost of a pup but can support the upkeep of the puppy and I have a very good vet.  I have a few questions to ask this lady  re the following..  Where do you live in house or apartment? If in a house is the yard fenced? Do you work ?Who else if any you live with husband/kids/ other animals?   Would you be willing to pay for puppy classes for obedience?Who  will pay for the vet costs if the puppy/dog gets sick? How many animal have you owned and what type of animals? You will have to get the puppy spayed or neutered do you have the money for this?
To answer your questions:  My husband works and has his own business fire technologist, We have two children high school and public school. We have a Sheba In dog and a Bengal cat that gets along great with the dog, I have owned cats  and dogs and my huband has owned dogs (shepherds) cats , and I have been exposed to dogs and cats since I was a little girl.  training is no problem and my children are very good with the animals.  We live in a large size apartment and the landlord has no problem with our animals that is why we are able to have these animals.  Our sheba is up to date on alll shots and gets a heart worm preventative every year.  The cat is up to date on all shots.  Both animals are spayed and neutered.  I also have owned huskies.  As you can see we love animals. Anyway to answer your questions I have 2 children.  They behave around our dog which is a 3yr old female sheba Inu and our Bengal which is 1yr old male.  Dog and cat get along great.  We have a very large apartment with a large parklike area which people in the building run their dogs.Yes the management allows animals.  Isn't that great?   My husband Is a Fire technologist and works in relation to the fire department and police department.  I am a homemaker.  I have owned  a husky,  and also cats..As I mentioned we have a great vet and our animals are up to date on their shots.  My husband has owned many german shepherds. We also like to attend dog shows and of course I like to watch the pyrs.Training is not a problem

thanks for returning my message.  I have talked to many breeders.  Pyrs only bark when there is something to bark at.  they are quiet in the house.  Like any dog that has strangers coming to the home , that is when they bark.  Breeders have told me that they are the right dog for a large size apartment such as mine and when they are inside they do not sit there and bark for nothing. My sheba is the same way, will only bark for a Good reason.  Thats why they make good guardian dogs.I have also done extra research for over 1 year and other web sites have said the very same thing.  They are fine for large apartments.n Unfortunately there is too much stereo typing that people who live in aprtments are not suited for dogs.  Did you know that the Newfoundland dogs can be kept as well in good size apartments. Some pyrs  the ones that are problems are the ones that bark too much.  There are good pyrs and ones who's temperment are lousy.  I would not want to own one whos temperment was not that of a good pyr. There are people I personally know who have huskies in there apartments who have done just fine with them.  It also has to do with the training.  I could go on as I am very much informed.Stereotyping is not good.  If I stereo typed a pyr I would say You should not own one as you do not live in the mountains and You do not live in the Pyrenees Mountains which lies between spain and france and you do not own basque sheep for the Pyrs to guard. Check out the book Great pyrenees which is a #1best selling pyr book on page 13 the top paragraph.  It is a good informative book for you. Doneldasmye@worldchat.com
