That's our experience as well.  Useless.  Just dig a hole in the ground and 
bury the poop.  When the hole is almost full, cover it over with dirt and dig 
another.  You can cover the hole with a "lid" while actively dumping into it 
to keep down odor and flies.  Here in Georgia we are in Chicken country and 
they have covers for "Chicken Pits", but a lot of things will work.
