Re: [pyrnet] Boarding Kennel Blues

Kim-
I used to work at a boarding kennel and you do really need to take
caution on where you go. The facility I worked at was a pretty good one. All
of the animals were fed and looked after, and special attention was given if
anyone was sick or not eating. Dogs are bound to get dirty at a place like
that (especially white ones!) since they usually get another dog to play
with. What I would recommend, if you plan to ever board again, is go to the
facility ahead of time and ask for a tour. If they won't show you the whole
place, leave and don't go back. Ask all the questions you want and ask to
speak to the owner in person. The staff should be more than happy to
accomodate you if they run a good clean kennel. Also, every dog I ever
boarded was ecstatic to see their owner again, so this is probably a good
clue that you weren't in the greatest of places. When in doubt, you can board
at the vet or hire a house-sitter (which also has it's bad points). I
wouldn't dismiss ever boarding again, but just be careful! Good luck!
