[pyrnet] House training

Lisa,
I am new to Pyrs, my only experience is my two boys age 2 1/2. They
housetrained themselves at 5 weeks. They had been backyard puppies before
coming to live with me. So when I hear stories that Pyrs are hard to train,
I count my blessings. It certainly was not my experience. Other people's
training advice is no doubt based on much more experience than mine, but
here are some ideas.

Comment one. I have heard that puppies raised in crates at pet shops or
high density breeders are trained to "go" in the crate.

Comment two. Is this a new crate for your dog or could it have any
other dog smells on it? If it does, your dog could be trying to cover them
over, at least at first, and now he has poor habits.

Comment three. I have to leave my dogs alone for long periods to
commute and to work. If I am going to be gone over 8 hours, I make
arrangements for the dog either to go outside or to be able to use papers.
My pyrs are also paper trained. I have a dog sitter.

Comment four. Could there be something wrong with the location outside
that the dog must use? I have read that some pyrs are shy and want privacy.
Does it smell like other dogs?

Comment four. All the usual dog training stuff, praise them when they
do well. Keep a regular schedule. Start over as if they are a puppy. Etc.

Lots of luck. But no, this is not a secret of Pyrs, so far as I know.
Please write again and let us know how you are doing.
