Rabies is a big problem in Texas.  It's required by state law that 
the vaccine be done once a year.  In other states where rabies 
hasn't been a big problem it's every 3 yrs.  And yes, it's the same 
vaccine the vet gives.  The last puppy I got, Lana, came from a 
state where it's every 3 yrs. but once she came here it goes to 
once a year.  Also, can't ship in or out in Texas without a rabies 
vaccination.  I've even got one that once she got here I had to redo 
the vaccination because I didn't get the paper that said she was 
vaccinated.  My pyr before he gets any vaccinations he gets a 
antihistime shot and follow-up with benadryl because he has had a 
reaction to vaccinations.  If you get checked in Texas and don't 
have proof you can get into some real problems like having your 
dogs confiscated right then and there.  I always keep a copy of 
their paperwork in my car because tags are not proof in Texas.
