Re: [pyrnet] A debarked Pyr

Hi Katie,

We have had Pyrs for nearly 25 years. In close proximity to neighbors,
if it creates a problem, debarking is certainly an option. Years ago we
had a very dangerous, disgruntled neighbor and agonized about debarking
but saw no other solution. After a short recovery period, the dogs
happily barked all they wanted and disturbed no one. I do not believe
they had any idea that their voices were different. Where we live now,
we love their barking as it deters coyote, bear and mountain lion and
there are no neighbors nearby. I might add that our Pyrs are fenced in
but seem to be effective in keeping predators away, considering stories
of horse and dog attacks by cougars and coyotes on properties in close
proximity.

Good luck and, if you ever have procedures done where a Pyr is
anesthsized, please be sure the vet understands about the metabolism of
Pyrenees.
