Re: [pyrnet] Deliberately breeding dwarfs

It seems that people are concerned with producing Mini Pyrs. Well it did not
happen in Malamutes with a much larger dwarf population. Drawf mals can be
very cute like Pyr dwarfs. I have housed 4 dwarfs and breed a litter for the
AMCA and they are cute. I NEVER once thought of producing a Mini mal. Maybe
we should be asking what they did that prevented this from happening. They
did such a good job of getting rid of the dwarfs that to get the DNA samples
they had to breed a specially produced carrier to another specially produced
carrier to get enough samples.
Everyone wants people to come forward with their problems in the breed and
yet they don't come forward? Maybe we should asking the hard question why?
Maybe some don't want to face the fact of why people don't want to give up
information. Everyone in the breed has a personal agenda of some kind
hopefully it is for the good of the breed. I would not want to see Mini Pyrs
but I want to have dogs with good hips elbows, and eyes to name a few. If
your personal agenda for producing healthy Pyrs is not the same as someone
else at least the good sense to step aside and let them deal with it for the
good of the breed. If you can't lend support for a health cause in the breed
at least don't discredit those who are willing to work at a problem. The
sooner we get a DNA test for Dwarfism the sooner we can move on to other
problems. I wonder how rampant any condition has to before their is panic
in the breed. It seems that there is a lot of passion and panic about
dwarfism that should not be if we had only acted sooner with knowledge. It
still comes down to why were people not willing to come forward with
information. Could it be a lack of trust? Maybe it is time to ask some hard
questions of why people don't want to give up information. I think today it
is more that the finger pointing.
