Re: [pyrnet] ice and off-leash

<<This brings up another question I'd like to raise: what are some scenarios
in which you can walk off-leash, or train Pyrs to walk off-leash>>Suzanne

Hi folks, I returned to the fold after a too long hiatus with problem email
accounts. It is good to be back :-)

To answer your question Suzanne, the only times I have ben successful in
having a Pyr offleash is in a formal obedience training/trial situation (and
even then results can be comical - for onlookers anyway) or within a fenced
area. (the club I train at has a couple of large fenced paddocks for offlead
recreation so I am lucky). Even in the fenced areas, my Pyrs always head
for the fences and do their perimeter thing. I would suggest using
something like a flexi lead when there are no real barriers to stop them
going long distances. This way your dog can have some of the freedom of off
lead without getting too far away from you. With a little training to 'keep
close' on the same side of obstacles as you, walking in a wooded area
becomes relatively easy too.
