Re: [pyrnet] Pyrs and Jeep seats

I don't think there is any car that has a seat deep enough for a pyr to sit
facing forward! It is a long way from butt to front feet! My dogs have
always gotten tired of sitting up and lay down for the ride. I have had
three (two labs and a pyr) in the back of a Saab with the seat down and now
just have the pyr in the cargo area with the seat still up (it's a hatchback
so he can sit up and look out the rear window if he wants - you should see
the look on the face of the driver behind us when he does that). Also
consider how high the dog must jump (or you must lift) to get into the car.
Jascha's arthritis means I pick up the front and then pick up the back, the
rear of a Saab is as far as I can lift him up by myself. As a safety issue
the dog should be in the back, ideally with a cage barrier because if you
must stop suddenly the dog will fly if he is in the back seat. Not only is
this a danger to the dog, but a flying dog could hurt you or your passenger.
I know you drive safely but consider all the other jerks on the road who can
do stupid things in front of you.
