In Barry's defense, I think that "riddled" may be a bit too strong. Yes,
there were errors and there was also a lot amount of missing information,
but as Joe points out, Barry has worked hard to make the database as
accurate as possible.

much wrong information published in the first place and there are some major
differences in names and info from book to book even in Mrs. Cranes work.

Indeed. There is one dog that apparently came from the UK to the US that as
far as I know, still hasn't been straightened out. Even with complete
access to the studbook. BTW, that "famed" AKC studbook also contains enough
errors to be pretty irritating.

<<Since Barry's work is part of the PMD Club, it is sponsered by them. >>

I think that the point I was making was that the impetus for this project
did not come from the PMD club but from Barry himself. The club has helped
him some and supported his work.

<<AT one time I was aware the
Maryann Feller had (was working on) the complete AKC Stud Book entered in a
computer data base. I am assuming that has continued and would be the
largest data base in existence.>>

Yes, she still does have it. Sometimes it's a couple of months short of up
to date, but that is a hellish job !! If nothing else, the print is REALLY
small <g>

<<Not
sure how CompuPed is doing under their new Management,>>

Just pray that your program doesn't crash. A year ago my hard drive went
totally missing. When I got the new computer online I tried to reload
Compuped. It got a corrupt disc notice. OK. Well, not OK. That was when
I found out that there was no long ANY tech support for Compuped.
Contacting the addresses listed and/or MBF Software gets you NADA!! I have
ordered (and paid for) the Millennium Edition which is Windows based. But
at the rate they are going, I may never get that either. Meanwhile, I have
nothing. A least I do have a current data backup disc. Thank god for some
things.

I would certainly caution people about Compuped at this point. It is used
by most people seriously interested in genetics and not primarily in names
or titles. The discussion of what will happen now has been on several
genetics lists. It's not pretty at this point.
