When I have had to treat hot spots I would shave the area of the hot spot. This keeps hair out of the spot and exposes the wound to the air. And helps to dry it out. I also use a spray that my vet presribed called "Chlorhexi Derm". It cleared up in a matter of days. Marie, Valentino and angel Beau
