Re: [pyrnet] Hi protein

Hi Keith. My dogs have been on very high protein foods for years. My
birthday boy Bo, who is now 12, was on 30 % protein until he was 9 1/2 years
old. The food they are on now is at 25 % but they are supplemented with raw
meat. It is not the protein content that causes kidney problems (barring
other factors such as genetic predisposition and toxins), it's the source of
the protein. Plant and grain proteins are difficult for a dog's system to
process, thereby causing the organs to over work. Meat protein is easily
processed. The food I'm feeding now is 88 % derived from high quality
animal sources. So very little of the protein content is from grains. Most
kibble foods are mostly grain. I'd like to see Iams, Purina, etc. tell us
how much of their product is derived from meat sources. Some Vets are now
finding that dogs with kidney problems are doing well on raw food diets
which are mostly meat, but these "experiments" are still ongoing.
