Re: [pyrnet] Re: chat: guarding instincts...

. My husband asked me if I thought Krystal would have intervened if
this man had touched him, I assured him she would without being instructed,
but he doesn't believe me. What can I tell him about our beloved pyrs that
will convince him that though they are very gentle (which he has witnessed
over the yrs.), they can be very menacing when needed.

This is the real beauty of the pyrs, just the presence and demeanor of a dog
of their size will send the "bad guys" running without any further ado. A
lesser dog would have bitten the guy without hesitation. The pyr has the
good sense to escalate only if necessary.

As an example of the power of the jaws, should the dog ever need to bite -
Jascha "played" with his dog food cans one day while still a six month old
puppy. He bit several unopened cans crushing them and getting little spurts
of dog food to escape through the penetrations made by his teeth. He was
still quite small and was not angry. I can only imagine how much damage
would be done to flesh by those jaws.
