Just a note. When it comes to Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS)
such as Rimadyl, it is not just a choice between this or nothing (even
though it may feel that way sometimes with vets and drug companies shoving
it down our throats).  There are other drugs out there that may be an
alternative and perhaps better choice.  Metacam or CU-algesic (not sure if
it is a US one - mostly used in horses and other large animals here but also
for larger dogs) for instance and hopefully you can talk to your vet about
these alternatives.  Best thing is to get informed on what your possible
choices are so you can discuss with the vet what might be viable options in
your situation and so you can understand the possible side effects of those
