Re: [pyrnet] Aggression in 3-yr old

I am finding your description of the attacks as very disturbing, as I am sure are others. Dimentia in a three year old seems a bit of a stretch. Dogs can get very excited in these sort of scenarios where there is a lot of screetching and rushing around. The lunging for the throats is very worrying, any kind of attack to the face and head has to be a wake up call. I don't think that the scarves were the reason I think that maybe he is sick and needs to be checked out. As mentioned keep him well away from the kids and get some tests done as soon as possible. If it turns out that he has no serious medical issues then decisions about his future will have to be made. How is he with the 1 year old Pyr? I am so sorry that this is happening to your dog but only you know your dog well enough to recognise how odd his behaviour is compared to his norm.

Subject: [pyrnet] Aggression in 3-yr old

Dear all,
I was wondering if anyone may have had a similar experience with a Pyr or know what might be afoot-- these past 2 weeks, our oldest Pyr has been acting peculiar, such as when we took him sledding, he wouldn't run or play as normal, he hasn't been eating as much, etc.  Most disturbingly, he has attempted to attack three members in our family, two of the children and the father.  In the three incidences with the girls, it was only when they were wearing new brightly colored scarves, and he lunged at their throats, while with the father, he simply snapped at him when he was being hit very hard after he had tried to hurt the girls.  Some have suggested he was only trying to protect the girls from the scarves, which may have looked like an animal to him, while some specialists are saying it's either signs of dementia or dominant aggression.  We also have a Pyr who just turned 1 that has been getting more attention lately.  Any ideas?
