When I saw the post heading I
thought hmmm! smoldering Pyr, what the heck could that be, well now I
know...goodness gracious me you certainly were very lucky, as Chrissy says lots
of water on top of those glowing embers, that's what they say when you go
camping don't they? Thanks for the warning though because I don't think anyone
will make that mistake again....I am so glad that Ombre is
okay!!!

Pyr
Enjoying a couple of days of clear
spring-like weather, we gathered up sticks and garden debris and burned it in
an open fire way in the back of the yard. We watched the fire late into
the night to exercise due diligence with regard to safety in our wooded area.
Next morning, when hubby went out to do the morning critter
chores, Ombre was literally black and smoldering and required
extinguishing. She had laid on the ground where the fire had been (guess
it was invitingly warm) and live embers not only scorched her, but her fur was
burning. We're grateful to have discovered her latest escapade
before her skin was burned, but she has a big ugly, nearly bare, scorched
spot on her shoulder.
Ombre is our first Pyr, but I've never
heard of a dog catching itself on fire before. We will certainly be more
cautious in the future, but thought others might be forewarned.
