RE: [pyrnet] CARE: Moving to a new home

Great idea on the gate sign.  That too, is a concern I have as I have 7 acres surrounding the house fenced for my Pyr and Mal.  So, I found these signs that are mounted on the poles which hold the gate to say "This property patrolled by a Great Pyreness" and "This property patrolled by an Alaskan Malamute" and I have never had a problem with someone opening the gate, as we do live in a very remote area. They are never outside, however, when we are not home, so I definitely know when someone has approached the gate, as they both let me know ASAP and very loudly!  We are moving to a new rural property this fall, and will have the same type of set up, but I do like your idea of "Do not open gate".  Thanks for the suggestion.

She is microchipped, but I don't take too much stock in that for quick ID purposes.
I do agree that microchips aren't good for quick ID by neighbors, but our animal shelter checks for chips on animals lost or picked up.
We had Ombre chipped primarily because large dogs sometimes disappear from our rural area (espcially Yellow & Black Labs).  Unless they're chipped they can be sold for commercial purposes(collars & tags can be easily removed).  I'm considering a sign for our fence that says,
        "Dog Inside"
        "Has microchip"
        "Do Not Open Gate"

"Beware of Dog" sounds like she's mean, and an invitation for a lawsuit if someone seriously offends her. "Keep Out" doesn't sound very cordial, but "Do Not Open Gate" clearly says just what I mean.
