Re: [pyrnet] RE: pyrnet-l-digest.20050318-1

A friend of mine is also interested in finding a Great Pyrenees, but is more interested in finding an adult male dog, possibly a rescued animal
Jump back in the e-mails and find out where that 1 yr old male is who has been shuffled around and bit a kid who tried to take his bone the first day he was in their home.  He needs a rescue quick.  Betcha he's not a mean dog at all, but hasn't had a chance to settle in and feel at home, learn the rules, and learn to love the people.  He needs a good home with adult people who have at least a basic understanding of dogs, if not specifically Pyrs.  (An adult did not take responsibility for the kid OR the dog in that household. That should never have happened and the dog shouldn't be sentenced to death because of it.)
I feel so sorry for him and how confused he must be, but we simply do not have the facilities, time or money to take on another large dog and properly care for it.
I don't think a normal Pyr has a mean bone in their whole body - at least Ombre doesn't. We had to train her that it was okay to take a treat from our hands instead of off the floor.  She acted like she was afraid she'd bite our fingers.  She would lick at it, but not take it in her mouth.
There are lots of rescue possibilities, but any new dog needs time to adjust and learn the rules in a new home.
