Well, if the creatures were based upon real European mythos I would not have
a problem. Who knows what type of nasties Europe has in store for the unwary
soldier in a world wher such creatures exist.
Carrion crawlers I would have a problem with. They (to me) seem to be a D&D
thing, and I would not like that in a WWII game.
Goblins would have to be more than just the D&D-esk type of sword fodder.
If they had some more mythilogical base it would be more fun and more than
just stupid killing machines.

All in all though, I think you are right. They do not seem to WWII like.
Now Ghouls (as in flesh eaters) would fit in in an envirenment where there
are LOTS of dead bodies. Hell, undead would fit in for the most part.
Nasties such as carrion crawlers, while fitting the bill for the deadbody
part, just don't seem like a WWII thing.
I would use nasties that have a more "human" aspect to them. Hunters in the
dark who prey upon lost soldiers. Or who prey upon the dead.

just my thoughts.
