Man, that's wicked.  How about 15? Ten just seems awfully low.

Actually, this idea has been done before.  It worked very well in Feng
Shui.  For unnamed characters the GM didn't track their HP, if the "mook"
was hit by an attack that exceeded what was needed to hit by 5 or more
(say you roll an attack of 20 when the target only has an AC 15) then the
mook was out of the fight. Dead or not was a matter of style. The
important and named villians were handled the same way as PCs. This gave
a very cinematic feel in that the heroes could go through gobs of little
guys and it didn't take all night.

Actually, no it wasn't and that little miscommunication has already been
straightened out.
