I'd still say no for game balance/continuity reasons. If you allow that,
Hellstromme can do the same thing and suddenly mad science rockets the 1870s
into the 2010s.

I think Darrin pointed out a couple of years ago that if that process
worked, each gizmo builds on the last as "current technology" making more
complicated inventions simpler, causing technology to snowball. And, with
that model and careful planning, a mad scientist with 6 inventions under his
belt could set up a progression that only required Three of a Kind to build
a time machine. :-)
